Another favorite book Friday twofer….one for the kids and one for the grown ups!
Although this kids book is cool enough to entertain the grown ups too!
Dog by Matthew Van Fleet is a super cool interactive book all about well, dogs. You pull tags to see the dogs do different things including shake in the bath, scratch, and even pee! There are also lots of different textures to feel in this book including fluffy tails, soft fur, and a sticky tongue. Jonah really enjoys the pictures of the dog’s doing every day things that our dog does like eating, scratching, and playing with a ball. There’s also some good learning fun with opposites and synonyms and some learning for parents too at the end with all the dog breeds listed. The book is really sturdy and can withstand lots of toddler love.
Matthew Van Fleet also has a whole series of these books-we also have and love Alphabet. It’s another really great interactive book.
The “bonus” grown up book today is Nurtureshock: New Thinking About Children by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman.
This is not really a “parenting” book, but more a child development book that’s good for parents and educators alike. The book shares new research on the development of children that is sometimes counterintuitive to what we presume. Although heavy on the research, it’s a very easy read and reminded me of the style of Malcolm Gladwell if you’ve read any of his popular psychology books. I highly recommend this book to anyone who deals with children. Really interesting!
